HEX Acreage and Seismic/Well Data Base

Offshore - West Shetland

The West of Shetland is a proven petroleum basin already benefiting from the Clair, Foinaven and Schiehallion producing oil fields and represents an area which contains an estimated 17% of the UK's remaining hydrocarbon reserves. Consequently it is an area of high exploration activity attracting some thirty companies working across 60 licences. HEX believes that the area remains under explored for oil and that new exploration concepts are required to unlock its remaining potential.

In addition, one of the other main challenges in the West of Shetland is to unlock gas potential (circa 2 trillion cubic feet already discovered) from the area. Work has been carried out by a West of Shetland Task Force - a joint industry/government group which includes DECC, BP, ExxonMobil, Chevron, DONG Energy & TOTAL - to find a technical and economic solution which will allow for infrastructure to be put in place that could allow the development and enhance further exploration of this area.
